A business can look successful and still depend on its owner for nearly every important decision.

That dependency becomes a bottleneck when work slows down because you are unavailable, employees wait for approval, or customers only trust answers that come directly from you.

The owner-dependency test

Ask yourself these four questions:

• Could the team handle a normal week if I were unavailable?
• Are recurring decisions documented, or stored in my head?
• Does every important customer issue eventually reach me?
• Can I see the business's key numbers without assembling them manually?

If two or more answers expose a weakness, the next growth move may not be more leads or another employee. It may be one clear operating system.

Start with one recurring decision

Choose a decision you make at least twice each week. Write down the trigger, the information needed, the acceptable options, and when the team must escalate it. Then let one person follow that process for 30 days.

You are not trying to remove yourself from the business overnight. You are transferring one repeatable responsibility at a time.

A stronger business is not one where the owner works harder. It is one where the right work continues without the owner becoming the traffic jam.
